He has performed in more than a dozen countries across four continents, and been voted a Downbeat Magazine Critics Poll Rising Star 5 times. You can find Jonah performing at NYC Jazz clubs including The Blue Note, Smalls, Dizzy’s Club, Nublu and Iridium, as well as rock clubs like Bowery Ballroom, Brooklyn Bowl, Music Hall of Williamsburg, Elsewhere, and Baby’s Alright.
Jonah completed a Bachelor of Music from New York University in 2010 and a Master of Music from Manhattan School of Music in 2012. He has been teaching students privately for over a decade, as well as spending 6 years teaching beginning and advanced band at PS154 in Windsor Terrace.
When it comes to his work as an educator, Jonah believes that music lessons are about more than mastering an instrument or a certain style of performance. Music can be a guide through which to explore creativity, the art of learning, and the empowering exploration of self expression. He teaches patiently and with a dedicated focus on catering every lesson to each student’s style of learning and musical interests.
Jonah is truly a great teacher. He wants you to enjoy playing music, and he caters to the path you want to go down as a musician. He is not judgmental or critical at all and has an informative and helpful teaching style.

If you are old enough to hold a saxophone you’re old enough to learn to play. Every kid is different so there are no strict rules about age at Brooklyn Saxophone Studio, but in general, most students 8 years and older should have no problem diving in.
Yes, Brooklyn Saxophone Studio offers virtual lessons via FaceTime, Zoom, and Skype.
The biggest consideration when deciding which saxophone to start with is size, and the next one is playability. For most students alto saxophone is a great place to start because it is a manageable size, and not too difficult to play. Tenor saxophone is ok too, as long as the student is tall enough to hold it comfortably.
During your free phone consultation, Brooklyn Saxophone Studio can help you identify whether you would like to purchase or rent an instrument, and identify the best option of what instrument to choose and where to get it.
Studying a musical instrument can be a transformative experience in a students life. Saxophone lessons are a powerful way to watch practice lead to improvement, build an enduring appreciation for music & music performance, or discover a lifelong passion.
